CompTIA 220-602 exam:
The CompTIA A+ 2006 Edition certification exam has three separate tracks. The CompTIA A+ Essentials test, exam code 220-602, is required for each first-time applicant. All applicants then choose a test to align with one of the three designations. CompTIA A+ Essentials covers the basic skills needed by any entry-level service technician regardless of job environment. The exam covers information on basic hardware and operating systems, including installation, repair, troubleshooting, preventative maintenance and security.

For applicants intending to work in a mobile or corporate technical environment with a high level of face-to-face client interaction. Potential job roles include IT administrator, PC technician, and Field Service Technician, as well as non-technical jobs that require understanding of computer repair issues. The exam code is 220-602.

For applicants intending to work in a remote-based environment where client interaction, client training, operating system and connectivity issues are emphasized. Potential job roles include Remote Support Technician, Help Desk Technician and Call Center Technician.The existing CompTIA A+ 600 series exams remain relevant and are in use by organizations and educational institutions throughout the world. The English version of these exams will retire in the U.S., Canada and South Africa on February 28, 2010. The English version will retire in the U.K., Australia and New Zealand on August 31, 2010. The educational versions of 220-602 exam, as well as the German, Korean, Arabic, Chinese and Japanese translations of the 220-602 exam, will remain in the market for use until August 31, 2010.

For candidates certified under previous versions of the exam:
1. Take the CompTIA A+ 2009 Edition (two exams). 
2. Only those who are certified in the most recent version of CompTIA A+ (2006 objectives) by taking 220-601 and one of the following: 220-602, 220-603 and 220-604 exams are eligible to update their currency through taking the CompTIA A+ bridge exam (one exam), which covers the new objectives.
